City Hall will be lit purple the week of Oct. 12-18 upon the request of Williams Lake Royal Purple.
The society is part of a nation-wide cause which raises awareness and aims to prevent further brain injuries caused by interpersonal violence (IPV). According to Statistics Canada, eight in ten victims of police-reported IPV in 2022 were women and girls. From 2014 to 2022, police-reported IPV rates increased by 19 per cent for women and girls and by 21 per cent for men and boys. However, most cases of IPV are not reported. In 2019, 80 per cent of people who experienced IPV did not report it to police, with women reporting 22 per cent of the time, and men reporting 14 per cent of the time. |
